Largest Floating Kolam in Malaysia by Golden Sands Resort Penang

It was a day to remember for Golden Sands Resort Penang together with friends from the Penang Hindu Association. Together, they did a record-setting for the "Largest Floating Kolam (Mural) in Malaysia" in line with the Deepavali celebrations recently.

After many days of preparation, the big day finally arrived and the level of excitement was so great. People were all eager to wait for the finishing touches and for it to be marked into the Malaysia Book of Records.

I was indeed privileged to be there during that special and memorable occasion.

"The project would not be possible without the support and crucial help in terms of time, talent and precision work from voluntary groups comprising the Penang Hindu Association members and hotel staff. This is an effort among the diverse people of Penang and harmony withing a multi-racial society. While doing so, we managed to set a record. This is unprecedented in the history of Goldens Sands Resort," said Hotel Manager Noel D'Cuoto.

Although Deepavali is a festival celebration celebrated by those of Hindu faith, but the kolam of a beautiful peacock was made with the assistance from volunteers of different ethnic and background. It took days and days for the pasting of the dried coconuts flakes and flowers  according to the cut out shapes and then painting it with designated colours. It was remarkably gorgeous.

More than 100 volunteers dedicated their time and effort over 10 consecutive days, equivalent to 110 hours in order to make this project was a success. The kolam was massive, measuring at 638.02 square metres and floats above a massive 120,000 gallons of water in the resort's pool.

The joyous moment as seen in the photo above when the Kolam was recognized as the "Largest Floating Kolam in Malaysia" in the Malaysia Book of Records. Clap! Clap! Clap!

The event was followed by a splendid performance of traditional table or Indian drum as well as classical Indian dances.

The kolam was surrounded by 15 full bloom lotus flowers and 5000 bulbs of fresh flowers,

Heartiest Congratulations to Golden Sands Resort Penang and Penang Hindu Association for their historical success in creating the Largest Floating Kolam in Malaysia.
