Unilever Food Solutions To Launch Chefmanship Academy in Penang Soon.

Operating a food establishment be it big or small in scale, there is more than just knowing how to cook. The good news is, Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) is launching the inaugural Chefmanship Academy (CA) on Penang Island, to provide knowledge and good practices amongst food operators, with emphasis on food safety and smart entrepreneurship.

I was fortunate to be invited to the Chefmanship Academy session which was held in conjunction with the Sambutan Hari Penjaja & Komuniti Peniaga 2015 organised by the City Council of Penang Island (MBPP).

Greeted by the friendly team, we were then offered their specially made items to be sampled. There was the begedil made from mashed potatoes, fragrant nasi planta, ayam masak lemak cili padi. ayam masak kicap, and sayur campur tempe. We were then briefed about their products and more about the concept of Chefmanship.

One thing that was rather interesting and fascinating was the Lime Seasoning Powder which not only enhances the dish but also can be made into a drink. Now how cool is that.

1 packet is equivalent to about 200 numbers of lime. The good thing I was told was, if you were to buy the fruits in a box, there would be a percentage of some rotten, and after squeezing the juice there other parts goes to waste while with Knorr's Lime Seasoning powder, you do not have to worry about it.

It wasn't long before the place was filled with people who were interesting in especially in the cooking demo.

There was a brief introduction about Chefmanship Academy which highlights maximizing profits and efficiency, counting of cost, menu planning, foods safety, handling of food, among many others. It was then followed by a cooking demonstation by UFS chef, Chef Yang Ibrahim. Just before he started, a lucky participant from the public was chosen to be his helper of the day.

Tadahhhhh.. the food is ready.

For UFS, CA is part and parcel of the Unilever Group’s global Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) with the objectives of improving health, well-being and hygiene habits in Malaysia by working closely with food operators in Penang and nationwide especially with the rising incidences of typhoid, leptospirosis (rat urine contamination), diarrhoea and food poisoning.
Since it was launched in 2013, UFS has been involved with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), Alor Setar City Council (MBAS), Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB), Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) as well as Klang & Coast Hawkers & Petty Traders' Association, Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK), Malacca Historical City Council (MBMB) and Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) in a first-of-its-kind initiative in Malaysia by a food service provider.
UFS Malaysia is collaborating closely with key Government authorities and other private sector organisations so that participating food operators will be able to enhance their techniques and have greater insight into how they can improve food handling, save time and also operate cost-effectively and be aware of latest developments in this industry and understand regulatory requirements better.
CA combines real world insights with industry research to offer hands-on learning experiences by covering more than 100 topics including enhancing cooking skills and cultivating proper business acumen.

I feel that UFS has taken a great initiative to have this for the public, It does not only help educate food operaters/handlers but also as an opportunity for them to improve their business in so many ways possible.

Thanking the team at Unilever Food Solution.
