Chef Fauzi Bin Ilias was recently awarded the “Most Outstanding Chef Award for 2014” in conjunction with the 27th Annual Dinner of the Chefs Association of Malaysia ,Penang Chapter Flamingo Hotel,Penang on 23rd Jan 2015. Voting was done by the Chefs Associations Members (CAM) who nominated 3 chefs to compete for this title.
Other highlights of Chef Fauzi was that he also won the Golden Medallion Award ( Professional Category ) 2013 during The Star Cruises Nasi Kandar Competition . He has acquired a wealth of experience working in hotels and outlets such as Paradise Sandy Beach Resort , Tangjung Bunga Beach Resort , Rasa Sayang Resort , QE2 Restaurant , Madusa Gold Restaurant for 19 years , currently working as Sous Chef at Eastin Hotel Penang since 2009 . He specializes in cuisines such as Malay, Western and Indian .Besides that, he also have skills and passion in making pastry and fruit carving .
Chef Fauzi also won Commendation from Paradise Sandy Beach Resort Penang on the winning of the ‘ Award Of the 1st Penang Culinary Black Box Challenge 2004’ , Certificate of Excellence from Chefs Association Malaysia (CAM)Penang Chapter in 9th Penang International Salon Gastronomique 2003,Commendation from Paradise Sandy Beach Resort Penang on participation of ‘Battle of the Chefs’ 10th Penang International Salon Gastronomique 2005 , Certificate of Award from the chefs Association Malaysia (CAM),Penang Chapter in ‘1st Penang Chefs Challenge’ 2004 , 2 Silver medals in 13th Battle Of The Chef 2011 , 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal in 14th Battle Of The Chef 2012 , 1 Bronze medal in FHM Culinaire Malaysia 2013 , Gold medal 3rd Pattaya City Culinary Cup 2014 .
When asked about the best thing being a chef , the answer was simple and nice , ‘ I get to make people happy. Food makes people happy and no matter how big your problems are , you still have to eat. I believe that problems seem bigger on an empty stomach. Moreover , food has a way of cheering us up.’ According to Chef Fauzi , the best moment in the kitchen would be to witness a perfect plate of food coming together after long hours of preparation and that the dish receives praise from the customers. These type of moments makes him jump for joy.
