Tree Bar, G Hotel Gurney Penang - Not Just A Tree, It's A Bar

It is certainly good to be back at Tree Bar, G Hotel Gurney Penang. Tree Bar has been around for over 2 years, serving only the best beers and bites in town. As of 1 September 2016, Tree Bar continues to grow with its newly launched capacity from 48 seating to now, a whopping 198 seating. That's a massive upgrade! 

Tree Bar certainly isn't just another ordinary bar in town and it's not confined by 4 walls but instead, tipped as Penang's largest alfresco bar and also deemed as the top favourite hangout spot under a tree. Well for a matter of fact, a really huge and old tree. Tree Bar offers comfortable bar top seat as well as conventional dining tables offering the aesthetics of style and comfort, all you need to do is choose which type of seating you prefer.

Sit back, relax and unwind at anytime of the day in the outdoor setting. There is the open alfresco area as well as the shaded section, just in case the weather gets all wet. Standing tall in the bar is the humongous tree where Tree Bar got its name from. The tree is the "Albizia Saman" which is also known as the 'rain tree'. Its leaves folds during the rainy weather and in the evening, hence the locals named it as "five o'clock" tree ("Pukul Lime" in Bahasa Malaysia).

Not wanting to ruin the atmosphere by cutting down the 80 years old tree down, G Hotel decided to make good use of the space round it and in turn, 'killing two birds with one stone' - providing for guests while saving the environment. Kudos!

Guests can choose from the wide selections of international beers, wines, traditional cocktails and also Tree Bar specialty cocktails that are personally curated by in-house mixologists accompanied by bites that will satisfy your hunger. With the lowest price in town, guests get to drink 3 pints of beer from RM58nett onwards. There are a few selections of beers that guests can opt from, including Erdinger Dunkel, Hoegaarden, Erdinger Weissbier, Asahi, Connor’s Stout and Carlsberg. This promotion is valid all day long. Tree Bar also has Buy 1 Free 1 during the Happy Hour which is from 12pm till 4pm. Guests can take a midday break and enjoy Buy 1 Free 1 for all house pours.

From the start of September 2016, Tree Bar has also improvised their menu bringing you new and exciting bites for you to munch away while enjoying your drinks.

Crispy Squids  - RM 22
Chinese style deep fried salt and pepper squids with garlic chive mayonnaise.

When it comes to squid, for me, i personally loved it when it is deep fried. This dish, as simple as it looks, but love the simple flavour and the crunch that makes you wanting more with the mayonnaise.

Mozzarella Cheese Sticks - RM 22
Deep fried mozzarella sticks with mexican garlic salsa and extra virgin olive oil

Mozzarella Cheese Sticks which are lightly breaded and fried to crispy perfection. Best eaten hot and you get the cheezy oozyness of the cheese. 

Potato Croquettes - RM 18
Deep fried breaded new potato, chopped onions, garlic and scallion with basil tomato sauce.

When you have the perfect ingredients with the seasoned mashed potato, nothing could go wrong. Love the mushy texture inside and the crispiness outer. Could I have more of this too, please?  :)

Arancini - RM 22
Cheese and mushroom arancini with smoked tomato sauce and fresh basil

This item is something interesting where you have stuffed rice balls which are coated with bread crumbs and then deep fried to golden brown is a popular snack in the modern Italian food culture that you must try. The rice balls are stuffed with cheese, mushroom, sautéed onion, garlic and thyme. Flavourful in every bite, the perfect combo when dipped with smoked tomato sauce and fresh basil.  

Currywurst Sausage - RM 26
German chicken sausage braised in curry leaf, ketchup and spices. Now this, is a big hit especially during Oktoberfest.

Short Ribs RM 32
Breaded sous vide short ribs with creamy mustard sauce and fries

Short Ribs served with creamy mustard sauce and fries. Sous vide is a French cooking method. The raw short ribs are first deboned, marinated with salt and coarsely ground pepper and then sealed in a vacuum bag. It is then cooked in a water bath at 45°C for 8 hours until the meat is tender. Upon order, the chef will remove short ribs from the vacuum bag and deep fry with bread crumbs before serving. It is crunchy on the outside and juicy inside that makes you wanting to come back for more.

Seafood Pizza - RM 36
Calamari, prawns, mussels, tuna and homemade tomato sauce with cheese and basil leaf

Seafood lover, this pizza will get you wanting more of it. The hand-tossed crispy thin crust pizza topped with chef specialty tomato sauce are simply delicious with added fresh calamari, prawns, mussels and tuna, offering every bite with bursting of sweet seafood juice. 

Meatballs - RM 22
Homemade chicken or lamb meatballs braised in light gravy and criss cut potatoes

Buffalo Wings RM 29
Deep fried chicken wings with fresh celery, carrots and cheese sauce.

Gyoza - RM26
 Pan grilled Japanese prawn dumplings with chilli and premium soy sauce. 
Love the soft skin, and the fillings. Best to have it when it's still hot. Dip it into the sauce and yummz..

Chicken Schnitzel RM 36
crispy and juicy breaded chicken breast, guacamole, tomato salsa and fries

Erdinger Weissbier - RM 37
For a moment I thought it was going to be bitter, but it was surprisingly very mild and smooth. Gentle for those for prefer something mild to drink.

Chocolada - RM30
 A mixture of blended crème de cacao, light rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice and chocolate. It can’t get any tastier and richer! 

Atlantic Breeze - RM 30
As refreshed as sea breeze! With light rum, apricot brandy, Galliano, pineapple juice, lemon juice and grenadine to kick start your night! 

Bloody Mary RM 30
vodka and tomato juice with a dash of tabasco & pepper

Beer Flight - RM 46
Now this I must say is something pretty neat. You get 6 types of beers for your ultimate pleasure. Try it on with Carlsberg to cleanse your palate, go on with Connor’s Stout, Asahi, Erdinger Weissbier, Hoegaarden and finish off with Erdinger Dunkel.

Well not everyone drinks and at times you maybe clueless not knowing what to order or which beers or drink suits best, fret not as the staff or if you happen to see Norman Arno Kiehl, Assistant Outlet Manager, they will be more than happy to assist and recommend the items from the menu for you.

It was a night of of amazing food, drinks and fantastic companion.
