Is that time of the year where the chefs back at Ixora Hotel Penang whips up a feast for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration. Ixora Hotel is all set to welcome you to a gastronomic adventure with their course dining and buffet spread too.
I had the privilege to savour some of the highlights from the course meal as well as from the buffet spread that just pampers the palate. So let me introduce to you what the hotel has in store for you in this festive celebration.
First up, we look into the highlights of the course set.
The usual start of the meal would usually be the 4 or 5 season appetizers. We were served the Chef Special Combination which consisted of 5 variants, taken from the 8 course set. Not only was it presented in such presentable and appealing manner, it certainly also tasted as good as it looked.
For the soup, it was the rather interesting Double Boiled Spinach with Crab Meat Soup - 8 course set. The first glance at it, as it looked greenish; one would have thought that this doesn't look quite norm. But a scoop into it, you'd be surprise as to know it taste so different from what you perceive from looking at it. The soup had a nice flavour of seafood from the ingredients used and just a mild flavour of the spinach. Which was just perfect.
The main factor when it comes to a fish dish is the freshness of the fish. Shown below is the Steamed Fish with Superior Seasoning - 6 course set. The soy sauce mixture was delicious as well. Fresh fish and delicious soy sauce, nothing beats that.
It's prawn time. Here is the Wok- fried Prawns with Chef’s Special Sauce - 6 course set. The prawns were coated with teriyaki sauce giving nice aroma and a tinge of sweetness. Love it.
The last item from the course set was the dessert, Warm Sweetened Papaya Yogurt Puree with Glutinous Rice Balls - 8 course set. This was indeed something which I've not tried before and it was refreshing.

Roasted Duck
The roasted duck was thumbs up. Juicy slice of fragrant aroma duck and the sauce, ohhhhhh heavenly! You have certainly got to try this one.
Stir-Fried Asparagus with Scallop Sauce
Also don't miss out on Jan/Feb's special cocktail & mocktail which is the Spring (cocktail) & Blossom (mocktail).
Don't be fooled by the looks of the Cake of The Month for January & February. You won't be expecting that spicy kick at the end of the bite haha. The Spicy Chocolate Cake is totally something you thought would just be another chocolate cake but be surprised.
