With Chinese New Year fast approaching, Olive Tree Hotel Penang is all set to present to you their wonderful array of delicious food selection meant to be enjoyed for this joyous celebration. Whether it is a reunion or gathering with family, friends or colleagues, you then decide to enjoy their course set menu or steamboat; perhaps why not enjoy both during this Chinese New Year :)
I had the opportunity to explore the exciting flavours of both the steamboat as well as the dishes from the course menu. The flavours were just beautiful so much so that you'll be craving for more of it eventually.
To kick star the gastronomic journey, unlike the norms of the usual Yee Sang, Olive Tree has given it a twist by adding fresh fruits to it. Certainly something refreshing added to the taste of it.
The Yee Sang will be served for their 8-course meal as well as for the steamboat packages. Love it so much? Then you can always grab one to go at only RM 108nett. Valid from 24Jan-3Mac2018.
Time for steamboat!!! Oh just look at all of the items on the table. So tempting. This is what the Steamboat Combo CNY Special will look like with an option of either fish broth or spicy Sichuan soup. The fish broth was just right on the start but when after adding all the ingredients in it and once the flavour were trapped in the pot, it was so good.
While those who love some fiery spicy kick, then the spicy Sichuan soup would be the ultimate choice for you. It was spicy but still acceptable, coming from someone who just sweats upon the scoop of spiciness haha..
Nothing like fresh ingredients to make the perfect steamboat meal. From fresh seafood items like prawns, fish slices to a variety of greens, mushroom, noodles and many more.
You can also opt for the add-on items to for your steamboat.
Next up were some of the highlights of the course menu.
Winter Melon Seafood Chowder with Crabmeat.
The addition of winter melon in the chowder was something different. Unlike the usual seafood chowder taste, the winter melon does give it enhanced flavour on overall.
Crispy Boneless Chicken with Mongolian Sauce
Now this is the bomb! The chef's special creation of the sauce was amazingly delicious. So delicious that I could keep popping this into my mouth. So good!
Wok-fried Butter Prawn with Crisp Garlic
The buttery aroma and fragrant garlic added to the prawn was just amazing.
Steamed Red Snapper Fish with Thai Green Curry Sauce.
This was indeed very different. We get to try something different, something unlike the norms of usual steamed fish in soy sauce. The mixture of the green curry was actually pretty good. The blend of ingredients used was delicious.
Braised Assorted Mushroom, Dried Oyster, Beancurd Skin and Garden Greens.
Smoked Duck Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf.
Double-boiled Soya Bean with Dumplings
The soya bean was mild sweet which was a good thing as many people are reducing on their sugar intake. While the dumplings had the right texture, when sinking your teeth into it.
Guest who dine with the Chinese set dinner and steamboat set on the evening of 15 Feb will be entertained by traditional live performances at The Olive function room.
The list of feast does not stop here, on the 1st day of Chinese New Year, 16 Feb, the hotel welcomes the lunar new year with a grand acrobatic lion dance at the entrance.
