Honouring extraordinary Malaysians challenging themselves to achieve great feats and attempting to break records, The Malaysia Book of Records launched (MBR Live!) 2019 – Extraordinary Malaysia today at Gurney Plaza, Penang. Set to inspire more Malaysians to achieve great feats and surpass their limits, the second installation of MBR Live! roadshow will be held from 20 to 22 September 2019.

Themed “Extraordinary Malaysia”, MBR Live! 2019 is being held for the first time in Penang and was officially launched by YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang. This live event served as a platform to inspire and promote the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians as they witness LIVE record-breaking attempts, learn about extraordinary Malaysians, and even attempt to become record breakers themselves.

Speaking at the launch, Christopher Wong, Chief Operating Officer of The Malaysia Book of Records said, “The Malaysia Book of Records is the official body that recognises record holders, record breakers and record creators in Malaysia and we aim to inspire Malaysians to achieve something greater and surpass their limits. The very first MBR Live! Roadshow held at Klang Valley last year was a resounding success and MBR Live! has become an ideal platform for Malaysians to showcase their talents, encouraging and inspiring Malaysians to take the challenge and achieve greater heights each year. We celebrate our national record holders and the spirit of excellence as new attempts have been made to create new records. I urge more Malaysians to take part in MBR Live! 2019 to challenge themselves to go beyond the limits to achieve their passion and dreams; and stand a chance to be listed in the Malaysia Book of Records. This is the second installation of MBR Live! and we look forward to continue this initiative as an annual affair and a way to foster patriotism and positivism amongst fellow Malaysians.

Over the three-day event, the MBR Live! 2019 will see 45 records being showcased, 39 live record-breaking attempts and 7 engaging, fun-filled record titles open for public participation.

Penangites will be able to witness Malaysians challenging each other for the 39 record titles in real-time which include ‘First Coffenaited Painting using Starbucks Coffee as Paint’, ‘Most Number of Fire Torches Eaten in 60 seconds’, ‘Fastest to Escape from Water Torture Cell’, ‘Most Number of Reverse Palm Push Ups in 1 Minute’ and ‘First to Play Violin while Paragliding’.

Mr. Kimmy Liew in his attempt to break the record of Most Number of Fire Torches Eaten in 60 Seconds, achieved the result of 59 fire torches in 60 seconds.

Ms. Jessica Loo, who holds the record of being the First to Play Violin While Paragliding, serenading the crowd with her solo violin performance.

Additionally, seven fun-filled record titles will be open for public engagement and participation during MBR Live! 2019. They are Fastest time to spell A-Z backwards, Most number of sushis eaten without use of hands, Longest time – skipping rope, Fastest coin stack, Fastest time to build a 15-cup stack, Longest time – ‘Plank’ position and Fastest time to drink a bottle of soft drink. Participants who take part in these exciting record titles which are open to the public will be awarded a certificate of participation.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Steven Sim is expected to attend the closing ceremony of MBR Live! 2019 and present certificates to sponsors and record holders on 22 September.
