Pink October #pinkforhope at Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang.


October marks the worldwide Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Gurney Paragon Mall in partnership with Penang Adventist Hospital had recently launched the #pinkforhope campaign on the 13th October 2019. The #pinkforhope campaign was launched to create and increase awareness against breast cancer and at the same time to encourage positive action amongst women and their families towards this fatal disease.

Did you know that one of the leading health crisis for women is breast cancer? According to World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most frequent cancer among women. Impacting 2.1 million women yearly and one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. 

Ms. Koh Sze Ming, Hunza Group Executive Director urged social media-savvy friends to utilize the hashtag #pinkforhope across all social media platforms to raise awareness on Pink October.

Also present at the launching showing tremendous support was YAB Puan Tan Lean Kee, the wife of the Chief Minister of Penang. According to her, widespread awareness about breast cancer and its early detection can save lives, and thus it is important that women and men have access to useful information about breast cancer, as well as breast examinations, screenings and early detection services.

Guests at the launching were presented with a pink video specially created by Gurney Paragon Mall and Penang Adventist Hospital focusing in correcting popular myth about breast cancer. It is also with hope that the video which are showcased via various social media will create a greater impact on the awareness of breast cancer.






The event started off with special performances by Tenby School Penang.


Ms. Koh Sze Ming, Hunza Group Executive Director, " In 2018, this particular malady took lives of approximately 627,000 women worldwide. It is the most common cancer among women in Malaysia, and Penang recorded the highest number of breast cancer cases in the country with 50 for every 100,000 women. Even men are not spared."

Sprinkles! A giant huggable pink teddy specially handcrafted by PAH volunteers and sponsored by Pelita International School. Sprinkles was created for members of the public to take photo with it & donate towards Penang Adventist Hospital cancer fund. The fund was initiated to assist needy cancer patients in subsidizing their cancer treatments.


Other initiative by the hospital during this Pink October include free health screening, free teddy medical clinic, breast cancer talk by Dr Kiley Loh, the Consultant Medical Oncologist of Penang, Adventist Hospital and also free Pink Bag for shoppers who spend a minimum of RM100 in a single receipt in Gurney Paragon Mall.









Also during the month of October, you can look forward to enjoying special pinky deals when you show up in Pink at participating merchants. Apart from that, you can also participate in their lucky draw when you spend a minimum of RM100 in a single receipt from 1-31 October 2019.
