Delicious Authentic Japanese Food at Kampachi, Hotel Equatorial Penang
Mention about delicious Japanese food in Penang and the name Kampachi, which is located at Hotel Equatorial Penang is no stranger. The well-known Japanese restaurant has recently undergone a major renovation and is now back with an elegant classy set up.
We were privileged to experience their 7-course Omakase which surely brings in all the surprises on every dish that is served because there's no fixed menu for this and it's all up to the chef's recommendation and also based on the items that are seasonal during your period of visit. So be prepared to be surprised.

Starting from RM218, it's surely an experience of delicate flavours that pampers the palate.

We also had the honour to meet with Chef Alex, head chef of Kampachi Kuala Lumpur. Diners can look forward to a delightful dining experience just like how you would experience in Kampachi Kuala Lumpur.
Let's get drooling :)
First up was the Zensai which is a variety of starters consisting of Ika Shiokara - femented squid served in a tall glass which was a little strong on the pungent taste, Horensou Ikura Ohitashi - a classic Japanese salad and Shake Carpaccio - salmon roll served with their special sesame citrus peel sauce.
Next up is the Kinoko Suimono. A hearty clear mushroom soup that's subtle on the taste. Not the kind of heavily seasoned soup you would be expecting.
For those who love the freshness of sashimi, the Hamachi (yellowtail tuna), Maguro (tuna) and Amaebi (prawns) was gorgeous. The slices of the fishes were just satisfying while the prawn offered a tinge of sweetness on every bite.
Couldn't get enough of the Gindara Teriyaki. The nice slab of Cod perfectly coated with a sweet savoury teriyaki sauce. It is said that this special teriyaki sauce is from a 40 year old recipe.
Time for some little crunchy indulgence - Agemono. The vegetable tempura consist of a beautiful selection of Satsuma Imo (sweet potato from Japan), Kabocha Tempura (Hokkaido pumpkin) and Summer Asparagus.
The Bukake Soba was quite a refreshing take to the palate. Love the overall taste especially from the cold sesame broth. Such an aromatic treat.
Lastly, dessert to end the meal. The icy cool treat of Wasabi Aisu with Kyoto Grape is pretty unique. It's actually wasabi ice cream with mild sweetness and a lil' kick that stimulates the nose. :)
Thanking Hotel Equatorial Penang for hosting.
