The Taiwan Expo 2020 is finally here and it returns to Malaysia once again. Last year, we experienced a grand setting in Penang at SPICE Arena and due to the current pandemic situation that has hit everywhere, the Taiwan Expo 2020 for this year is hosted online and will be on-going from the 25th to 27th of November 2020. Taiwan Expo 2020 in Malaysia Online
It was a harmonious sight as Malaysians warmly greeted and welcomed their Taiwanese counterparts in various languages such as Malay, English and Chinese during the live stream. The live stream was done between Malaysia and Taiwan. The distinguished guests from Taiwan and Malaysia joined in together and presented the butterfly hand gesture, which symbolises Taiwan. It was then followed by a virtual handshake that signifies the greater bond and cooperation ties which also launches the Taiwan Expo 2020 in Malaysia.

Mr. James Huang mentioned that Taiwan and Malaysia have always had a close relationship. Although the global pandemic has made physical exchange difficult, with the help of technology and digitalization, the friendship and cooperation between the two countries continues to thrive – no better an example than Taiwan Expo in Malaysia 2.0.

On Taiwan-Malaysia economic and trade relations, Ms. Anne Huang emphasized that Taiwan and Malaysia’s economy and trade are complementary to each other. Taiwan was the 6th largest trading partner of Malaysia’s, while Malaysia being Taiwan’s 7th largest trading partner, reaching bilateral trade of nearly US$20 billion in 2019. She also believes that Taiwan Expo can create greater economic benefits for Taiwan-Malaysia economic and trade exchanges.

Mr. Khairul Annuar stated that, MATRADE and TAITRA have recently extended their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by another 2 years with the objective of further enhancing bilateral trade cooperation and trade promotion in the following areas: Halal Goods, F&B, ICT and e-Commerce. He believes that in addition to the aforementioned areas, Taiwan and Malaysia can also further collaborate on a variety of other areas including Industry 4.0, smart machinery, and digital healthcare.

Taiwan. With the current on-going pandemic battle that the world is battling
against, the Bureau of Foreign Trade has created the Taiwan Global
Anti-Covid-19 Pavilion with the assistance from over 2000 Taiwanese
manufacturers in the personal protection equipment industry and 20 medical
institutions. The Taiwan Global Anti-Covid-19 Pavilion is a medical platform that
showcases the latest when it comes pathogen detection, testing and back-end
smart medical systems.
Face-to-face business negotiations and dealings are a little more difficult now given with the current pandemic situation but with Taiwan’s expertise in information and communication technologies, it has certainly not stopped Taiwan from opening a brand new path online. Through Taiwan’s very own initiative – Taiwan Can Help, the country has displayed its very own ability and the willingness in assisting its global partners in battling this pandemic. Remarkable results were achieved in Vietnam, Indonesia and in Thailand with each business matching session attracting more than 200 buyers and each station was capable of handling more than 400 one-to-one business discussions.
