Enjoy Fresh Catches from The Sea with a Beautiful View of the Sunset at Tepi Laut Seafood Grill at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang
Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang has launched an exciting Coconut Husk Barbecue promotion at Tepi Laut Seafood Grill, a brand new al fresco dining outlet featuring fresh catches from the sea with a beautiful view of the sunset. The concept of grilling using coconut husks which produces a sweet, smoky flavour which enhances the natural taste of the seafood is inspired by a barbecue style popular in Jimbaran, Bali.
The menu features a variety of options such as the traditional Malay Fish Cracker (Lekor), Tepi
Laut Chicken Satay Jumbo and Seafood Satay Lilit for starters and tantalising coconut husk
barbecue selections which include Black Pomfret, Gold Pomfret, Red Lionfish, Snapper, Grouper,
Squid, Scallop, Prawn as well as Lobster. The barbecue items are served with steamed rice,
papadum and ulam – a traditional salad produced from fresh vegetables. Barbecue sauces which
complete the flavours of the grilled seafood include Sambal Belacan, Chili Kicap Menangis,
Eggplant Chili, Chili Air Assam, Garlic Oil and Green Chili Sambal.
Said Jegan Selvarajan, Executive Assistant Manager of Food & Beverage, “We are launching this
new Coconut Husk Barbecue promotion to entice our locals to have an exceptional dining
experience whilst watching the breathtakingly beautiful sunset in a relaxing setting amidst friends
and family. The pandemic has impeded us from our overdue vacation; therefore, we would love
our guests to experience Bali closer to home. Most importantly, our team is always adhering to the
standard operation procedures to ensure that there is at least one-metre physical distancing between
each guest and wearing of face masks are mandatory to keep each of our guest safe during this
unprecedented time.”

About Tepi Laut Seafood Grill
Located next to Pitch & Putt Golf Course, the Tepi Laut is about 4.5 metres away from the sea.
The structure resembles a traditional hexagonal architecture with fascia woodcarving around the
edges of the two-tiered roofs. It was built in 1973 during the early days of Shangri-La Rasa Sayang,
Penang and named Tepi Laut Restaurant & Bar then. This is the only remaining structure after a
series of renovations and redevelopment over the years. The structure is reminiscent of the old
Rasa Sayang other than the Minangkabau roofs. It has been refurbished and given a new lease of
life as the coolest outdoor restaurant by the beach. The two-tiered roofs served as an excellent
ventilation for anything sizzling, grilled, roasted and barbecue. The six-sided counter on top of the
red bricks can seat 48 people for drinks and dinner. It is a casual outdoor restaurant, a perfect venue
for barbecue meals during sunset and cocktails all day long. The specialties are fresh seafood
grilled over coconut husks. It creates a savoury smoky taste, bringing the dining experience to the
next level. The Tepi Laut is a great spot to enjoy tropical dining under palm trees with a wonderful
sea view.
