Malaysia’s Young App Creators Are Ready For The World
Be The Backer and support student developers by discovering their app on the HUAWEI AppGallery
Malaysia
is witnessing a rising wave of young digital creators who are shaping the
future of technology through programming and mobile app development. As the
digital economy expands rapidly, industries are increasingly seeking skilled
app developers who can design meaningful solutions and enhance everyday
experiences. This growing demand has inspired more Malaysian youth to explore
programming as a pathway to innovation, entrepreneurship, and global
opportunities. Recognising this shift, leading institutions and technology
partners are working together to nurture talent and strengthen the nation’s
digital capabilities.
One of
the most impactful collaborations in this space was the partnership between HUAWEI
AppGallery, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and the
Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), which jointly organised the
4th UMPSA x Huawei AppGallery Mobile App Competition 2025. The initiative
attracted strong national participation, with 1,000 attendees at the Grand
Finale and 195 teams representing more than 20 higher learning institutions.
Notably, all 195 mobile apps developed throughout the competition were
successfully launched on Huawei AppGallery, giving student developers a real
platform to showcase their ideas to global audiences.
The
overwhelming response to the competition serves as clear proof of the growing
national interest and the depth of emerging digital talent across Malaysia.
Demonstrating that young Malaysians are not only eager to learn but are
actively taking steps to transform their ideas into tangible digital solutions.
This momentum also reinforces the importance of industry collaboration, as it
shows that when global technology leaders such as Huawei create accessible
platforms and opportunities, Malaysian youth rise to the challenge and showcase
the creativity and technical capability needed to contribute meaningfully to
the country’s digital future.
Following
the launch of these apps on Huawei AppGallery, the competition also revealed
the 10 most downloaded student-made apps, reflecting strong public interest and
support for youth innovation. The apps that achieved the highest number of
downloads are:
● AgroThink
● BuildSmart
● DreamBound
● EcoSnap
● E-RepairKit
● HistoBuddy
● MySafeZone
● PropXpert
● PythonPath
● UpCycle
To continue championing
young developers beyond the competition, Huawei AppGallery has introduced a new
online campaign known as Be The Backer. Running from now until 21 December 2025, this initiative invites
Malaysians to explore the apps created by the student developers and support
their work by downloading and sharing the applications.
Through collaborations
with academic institutions and government agencies, Huawei is contributing to a
strong foundation for skills development, innovation and long-term digital
growth. The success of this competition and the enthusiastic response from the
public reinforce that Malaysia is well-positioned to become a thriving hub for
app development and youth-driven technological progress.
In the spirit of
encouraging homegrown innovation, Malaysians are urged to back these young
creators by simply downloading the apps featured in the programme. The campaign
is also open to all users, including those on Android, who can participate by installing AppGallery on their devices to
discover the student-made apps and enjoy the chance to win exciting rewards.
This collective support not only elevates local talent but also strengthens the
nation’s growing digital ecosystem.
