This was indeed such a privilege for me to be invited for my first ever review at Hotel Equatorial Penang. As it is now the Holy Month of Ramadhan, Hotel Equatorial Penang is proud to present their one of its kind Private Banquet Iftar Dinner. The concept behind it is like having an Open House with your family and friends during this holy month.
The Private Banquet Iftar Dinner is done in the ballroom that comes with a Raya-themed buffet dinner and standard Raya decorations too.
They have a couple of menu options for you to choose from. And the one I am about to introduce to you is taken from Menu A. Alright let's have you all drooling hehe..
Starting off there is the Sup Ala Thai Creamy Tom Yam Laut.
Moving over to the other side is where you will find the ulam-ulaman section with items such as raja ulam, pucuk ceylon, pegaga, petai and many more that goes well with sauces like the sambal belacan, cincaluk and others.
There is also the salad section with fresh greens as well as local salad, kerabu.
There is also the jeruk-jeruk and our local favourite which is the rojak.
Now let's see what main dishes awaits us.
Frankly, I didn't know what to expect when it comes to the taste but surprisingly, not only did the dishes looked really tempting, but it tasted so delicious that I just had to go for more of it again. haha..there goes my waistline..
There is the nasi tomato and white rice, but of course nothing beats having nasi tomato with the dishes.
The Ikan Masak Kong Poh Dry Chili, caught my attention first and it surely did taste as good as it looked.
Then there's the fiery Sambal Sotong Cili Goreng. The sambal was nice, the next moment you would probably thought I had just came out from the shower. haha.. Well, for me, even normal red chili I would be sweating alot. There is also the other dishes such as Kambing Madura, Ayam Masak Lemak Cili Api, and Udang Berjintan. Each having their own unique taste and flavour.
There is a couple of action stalls located outside, where you will find a creamy aromatic curry mee. It was really thick and rich. While the goreng-goreng stall offers fried items like pisang goreng, ubi goreng, keladi goreng and even cucur sayur too. One thing that I loved about the cucur sayur was, even after a while, it was still crispy. Oh yummy.

Nothing like ending the meal with some nice sweet treats. As for the desserts, there is the bubur, local fruits, malay kuih, mango pudding and the ever tempting assorted French pastries. Something no one can resist for sure.
Or perhaps some icy cool treat like the ais kacang?
Wind down with a nice cup of hot teh tarik or a nice cool refreshing drink of sirap bandung.
The Private Banquet Iftar Dinner starts from RM 80 nett and a minimum of 50 pax. Also maybe probably you may prefer to break fast at the comfort of your offices or homes, don't worry as there is also the Iftar Takeways which starts from RM560 nett for 10-12pax.
