G Hotel Gurney has recently completed a RM35 million makeover unveiling a complete modern and fresh new look with chic lobby, contemporary rooms, latest amenities, trendy food and beverage outlets and sophisticated meeting rooms. It was indeed a brand new blogging experience during my recent trip to G Hotel Gurney. Unlike the norms of the normal review style, it was done through "Perfect Bed & Perfect Pint Challenge". It was indeed something really unique and eye opening at the same time. But I must thank the amazing peeps back there for always remembering me. Muacksssssss
So what is this Perfect Bed & Perfect Pint Challenge? Yes, it involved bed and beer but it certainly wasn't about us enjoying beer on the bed haha. It was a day for us to showcase our so called talent in making the perfect bed and pouring the perfect pint but we were barely anywhere near perfect haha..
Our first challenge was carried out in the highest room category, G Suite which is also fondly known as the Honeymoon Suite.
With only 2 units available, the suites are encapsulated in an ultra chic and contemporary design, completed with a full set of amenities such as Royal Platinum Serta mattresses, 65” smart HD LED TV, Appelles eco-friendly toiletries, a lavish dressing room and a scenic panoramic sea view that is set to impress.
The bathroom is polished with European opulence with a fine touch of elegance and modernity, featuring two stylish basins, separated standing shower and toilet and a bathtub next to window, offering a lush sea view to relax one’s mind in such impeccable ambiance while soaking in for rejuvenation.
The challenge started off with Mr Shahril Seman, Housekeeping Manager in G Hotel Gurney giving us an introduction and a demonstration of the bed making. Frankly, everything looked easy. We were so wrong on that easy to do impression. Each blogger was required to fold in the bedsheet, followed by putting up the duvet cover and duvet insert and finish up with 4 pillow cases correctly within the given challenging time of 10 minutes. Extra points were given to the neatness of the overall bed making.
We took our queue numbers and one by one entered the room to do the challenge. The air was filled with anxiety and anxiousness. I was the 3rd person to enter and here is a glimpse of what took place during my turn.
Above : Part time housekeeping staff on duty haha.
Some pushing here and there, some pulling of here n there and voila, my bed was done. Nowhere near the perfect state haha.. Remembered earlier when I said it looked easy? Oh boy I was so wrong. In order to get the perfect silky smooth surface, the staff has to have the right way of doing it or it would just end up like mine. Pulling one side and the other side just comes out.
It was not an easy task and now after going through the process myself, it makes me appreciate the making of the bed even more. Pushing the bed, carrying the mattress to push the linen in among other steps is all carefully done.
That's the bed that I made, not too bad isn't it :)
We then adjourned to Tree Bar for another round of challenge. In fact, this tree that the Tree Bar is nestled under is derived from the species name “Albizia Saman” as mentioned earlier, which is also known as the ‘rain tree’. Its leaves folds during the rainy weather and in the evening, hence the locals named it as “five o’clock” tree (“Pukul Lima” in Bahasa Malaysia). Not wanting to ruin the atmosphere by cutting the 80 over years old tree down, G Hotel Gurney decided to make good use of the space around it and in turn, ‘killing two birds with one stone’ – providing for guests while saving the environment.
Open seven days a week, the bar begins service from 12pm to 1am on Sunday to Thursday while the operating hours for Friday and Saturday is from 12pm to 2am, serving the lowest price of beer in town with 3 pints of beer from RM58nett onwards. Happy Hour offers the guests buy 1 free 1 promotion on all house pours from 12pm to 4pm.
Mr Danson Khaw, Assistant Outlet Manager then shared with us on the correct way of pouring the perfect pint.
There is actually an marking on the glasses which indicates how much foam it should only have.
Well lucky for me, I did an almost nice perfect pint. :)
Feeling so proud with my pint of beer.
I have never had luck with contest or games, but I guess lady luck happened to be by my side and I won myself the 2nd prize. Wohooooooooooo
I couldn't be any happier for this sweet exciting news. Was on cloud 9 upon my name being announced.
Third prize is a 2 days 1 night stay in Executive Room worth RM1040. Second prize is also a 2 days 1 night stay in Executive Premier worth RM1190 and the Grand Prize is 2 days 1
night stay in Premier Suite worth RM2340, which is the highest room category of the hotel. All three winners will also get to enjoy the Executive Lounge benefits such as evening cocktail, express check-in and check-out, local city call and more.
My sincere gratitude to G Hotel for having me over for this unique and special experience. It's definitely something unusual and this allows us to experience and learn more about the job task of different staffs especially behind the scene, that contributes in different ways but with one aim, outstanding excellence in hospitality.
