  The Lion Origin Penang 2026 - A Night of Culture, Rhythm & Tradition! 




Penang recently witnessed an inspiring celebration of culture, heritage and passion at The Lion Origin Penang 2026, presented by Persatuan Kebudayaan Shi Yuan Malaysia and Persatuan Tarian Singa Universiti Malaya, held at HARRIS Hotel & Conventions Sunshine Penang on 4 & 5 September 2026.
What began as an idea among Universiti Malaya students in 2005 to form a lion dance troupe has grown into something truly remarkable.

Following the first The Lion Origin in 2016, the event has continued to bring together generations of performers and audiences through a shared love of culture and tradition.

This year’s event was officiated by YB Tuan Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport and YBhg. Dato' Yeoh Soon Hin, Deputy Chairman of Tourism Malaysia, Chairman of the Penang Port Commission and Event Director of The Lion Origin Penang 2026.

And what a night it was! We LOVED it! ❤️❤️

From the powerful beats of the 24 Festive Drums to the electrifying Lion Dance, Chinese Orchestra and various cultural dances, each performance brought its own story, character and energy to the stage.
Beyond the colours, costumes, music and spectacular movements, what made the evening truly meaningful were the people behind it. The young performers who spend countless hours practising and perfecting every movement. 

Events like The Lion Origin remind us that culture has the power to bring people together, regardless of age or background.

A heartfelt appreciation to everyone who made this celebration possible and especially to every performer who poured their heart and soul into every performance. 👏🏻❤️

When the drums continue to beat and the lions continue to dance, our heritage continues to live. 🦁❤️
